A Metabolism Boosting Tip

Okay, we all want to have more energy and enjoy food without putting on weight. This approach can help in a big way…

Here’s a quick metabolism boosting tip you might want to keep in mind. Casey and I just celebrated American Thanksgiving (complete with a feast of food), and I definitely practiced this one!

Tip: Get your metabolism going before you eat!

What does that mean? Well, if you do a quick (or full on) workout before you have a meal, your metabolism will already be working when you put food in your mouth. This means your body will burn the calories faster.

This is one of the reasons the Yoga Boot Camp is so excellent – it gets your metabolism up first thing!

Boosting your metabolism with exercise also helps your overall energy levels, so you feel more energetic.

Here are some ideas to get your body pumped before you eat:

  • 5 minutes of cardio like Jumping Jacks, Steam Engines, High Knees, Mountain Climbers
  • Going for a quick walk or run
  • Burpees (10, 25, 100 – whatever you’re inspired to do – these are FANTASTIC for getting you going quickly)
  • Yoga Fitness Boot Camp
  • A strong yoga practice
  • Dance party in your living room!

Do keep in mind that you want to let your body settle and catch your breath before you actually eat, so take a few minutes to let your heart rate come back down first. But know that when you get moving before breakfast (or any other meal), your metabolism gets a great boost!

The holiday boot camp starts on Monday, and I’m really looking forward to it! It’s going to be a great way to keep in shape through the festive food season so you can start off 2011 ahead of the game rather than 10 lbs behind. Ah, those holiday parties…

Bright blessings (and love to the burpees),

Katrina

P.S. Remember, even if you’re planning to work out later in the day, it’s a great idea to start off with some activity first thing. Then you get in the habit of moving your body right away and bring more energy to your day!
