Yoga Radio: The Potency of Transitions and Revolution with Ginger Coy

In this episode of Yoga Radio with Katrina Ariel:

Ginger Coy

2012 has been prophesized as a time of great transitions and, so far, it hasn’t disappointed.

The things that aren’t working are breaking down. The president of Germany has just stepped down, there are protests in Greece and in many other places everyday people are taking measures to Occupy and say “We’re Not Gonna Take It Anymore!”

Revolution about taking back your own power, and not giving it to anyone. This has been one of the major themes in the scandal that has rocked the yoga world, with John Friend, the founder of Anusara yoga (and with whom I studied extensively and learned tons), exposed as a human being who makes mistakes and hasn’t been walking his talk.

For me and many others, it has been a time of letting go of anyone I’ve held on a pedestal and stepping fully into trusting my own knowing and power.

In this show I have an excellent talk with Ginger Coy, who brought us the Bay Shakti blog, about the universal teachings these times of transition are offering up right now, and how you can apply some of these ideas to the transitions you face in your own life.

Guest Bio:

It is Ginger’s belief that sharing information is sharing energy, and as you share energy, you share a thread that connects you to others. As everyone shares different threads, the tapestry is woven, and the fabric of life is all the more richer. As one of us is uplifted so is the rest!

What you’ll find in Ginger’s classes is a welcoming quality of earnestness and a safe space for you to explore strengthening, alignment, and heart opening. Ginger combines playfulness and seriousness, and endeavors to be ‘seriously playful’.

“Dance, when you’re broken open.

Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off.

Dance in the middle of the fighting.

Dance in your blood.

Dance when you’re perfectly free.”

Yoga Radio: Being Human and How Standing on Your Head Can Help

In this episode of Yoga Radio with Katrina Ariel:

Let’s face it, we all make mistakes. It’s part of being human.

But we can go overboard with guilt, obsess about “right and wrong,” and just plain stress ourselves out beyond reason.

We all ride waves of emotions, and deal with life’s situations the best we can, but we need ways to find balance, to clear the unease of worry, and to figure out how best to forgive, grow and learn from our mistakes. Here’s where yoga comes to the rescue, with everything from poses that clear stuck energy to wisdom found in relationship.

And even if you don’t want to stand on your head, this week’s show will have lots of gems you can take with you to add some sparkle and shine to life as you play the grand game of human experience.

Episode Title: Being Human and How Standing on Your Head Can Help

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,

there is a field. I’ll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,

The world is too full to talk about.

Ideas, language, even the phrase each other

Doesn’t make any sense.

Here is the meditation from the end of this Yoga Radio show:

When I met my boyfriend Casey he told me about this practice he calls “happy meditation.” You think of a memory or thought that brings joy, then you stay with the feeling of happiness, letting the thought float away.

You can do this with any feeling: love, gratitude, peace, compassion, forgiveness.

Any attribute that brings light and healing to you is worthy of your attention. The key is to really penetrate that feeling and use it to bring yourself fully into the moment.

Happy Meditation

Align your spine and sit beautifully.

Take a few breaths to feel your body.

Feel your breath.

Then, think of a moment in your life that brought you great happiness

Let the feeling of joy fill you.

If it begins to fade, think of another happy memory.

Let the memories bring the feeling to you so strongly

That you can simply stay with the feeling of joy,

And let the image of the memory dissolve.

Close your eyes and breathe here,

In the warmth of your heart,

In the fullness of this feeling.
