Happy Peace Day!

September 21st, 2009

Today is Peace One Day. Around the world people are celebrating and participating in peaceful activities. In places of conflict soldiers are putting down their guns and allowing humanitarian aid to take the starring role.

There are even soccer games being played in the most unlikely places – a mall in Tokyo, the desert in Africa – all in celebration of peace.

Ahimsa, non-violence, is the first guideline of yoga. It reminds us that, since we are all interconnected, harm to one is harm to all.

One of the most important steps in global peace is finding peace with yourself. Coming into a place of self acceptance and practicing treating yourself with kindness can sometimes be a challenge, but it is one of the best possible choices you can make.

By being at peace within yourself you naturally influence a peaceful environment around you. In addition, the vibration of peace that you anchor within supports the matrix of peace around the globe. Even if you do nothing else, this alone is a worthy contribution to world peace.

Mini-Meditation:

Sit beautifully.

Take a breath and settle into your pelvis.

Expand from the inside and let your breath lift your heart.

Invite these two words to resonate within:

Om Shanti

Om Shanti

Om Shanti

Sit within the vibration of peace, and simply breathe.

Make peace with yourself, and then see the whole world blanketed in the light of peace.

Stay for as long as you’d like  (at least a full minute or so…)

May all beings be happy

May all beings be free from suffering

May all beings live lives of joy, love, and peace.
